Our First 25 Year Celebration - 27 February 2023
On 27 February 2023, the Eve Brook Scholarship Fund celebrated a quarter of a century of helping Birmingham care-leavers to go to University, at Birmingham’s Midlands Arts Centre (mac) who generously donated their café and theatre for the event.
The evening was launched by the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Maureen Cornish, and addressed by the Deputy Leader of the Council, Brigid Jones, the CEO of the Birmingham Children’s Trust, Andy Couldrick, and past and present beneficiaries, including social worker Marie Fall BSc MSc, writer Kim Cormack BA, MA and engineer David Esset BSc, MSc. Our Patron Baroness Helena Kennedy KC spoke to the meeting from London.
We launched our new short film promoting our work to potential donors, supporters and applicants, made by Birmingham filmmakers TinkerTaylor, and featuring former beneficiaries Rennae Smith BA, public health worker Kerry Littleford BA MA, music promoter Nathanael Williams BA MA and barrister in training Musa Nela LLB.
A new award, in the name of our former Treasurer John Rouse, was presented by Cllr Jones to former beneficiary Kim Cormack, as a contribution to the budget of her touring show, The Big O.
